Anoop Dog is Back and he's better than ever! Anoop sang Willie Nelson's Always On My Mind (click here to watch his performance), and he freaking nailed it! Everyone from the judges to the crowd absolutely loved it. Here are comments from the judges:

Paula: Anoop is Back! I'm so proud of you. The song fit you like a glove. Your vocals are awesome. Tender, honest, amazing...

(Best comment of the four) Simon: You went from zero to hero. Favorite of the night! Good for you for taking a beating and I take back the don’t deserve crap. Welcome back Anoop Dog!!!

Randy: “Anoop Dog - you’re the bomb. Dope arrangement.

Kara: Classic song and you nailed it. Best of the night!

Anoop's Top 13 Performance Singing Michael Jackson's Beat It

Anoop chose to sing Michael Jackson's Beat It. Before hearing the judges remarks, this was the first performance from Anoop that I wasn't thrilled with. He was energetic, but unfortunately, the "Beat It" chorus lines just didn't sound too good. Anoop's enthusiasm tried to rescue the performance, but it was probably the wrong song choice for him. I didn't think he did that bad though. His stage presence was great.

The comments from the judges:

Paula said he shouldn't have chosen this song because it's untouchable and he sounded kinda karaoke.

Simon hated it. He said it was horrible and lacked aggression. It was karaoke and stupid, and it was like trying to be like MJ but failing.

Randy agreed with Paula and Simon. Wrong choice Anoop Dog. Very karaoke and you've got more than that.

Kara said it was a bad song because he had no variations and no riffs. It was flat.

Ryan asked Simon if he thinks it was a mistake to bring Anoop in as #13 and he said, "After that, yes."

Anoop asked for us to bring him back so he can sing another song. I agree with Anoop. It's up to us. Anoop is much better than this performance. We have to give him a chance to redeem himself.

Anoop was the last one chosen tonight to sing tomorrow night in the wild card show. Let's go Anoop Dog fans! Anoop is back. It's going to be tense tomorrow night because they're already top heavy with guys in the top 12. I was just listening to Rickey from Rickey.org chatting with MJ and Jim, and they think Anoop will be the only guy chosen tomorrow. Let's hope so. We'll see...

Let's Pray For A Wildcard For Anoop Dog - He Wasn't In The Top Three...

I'm honestly stunned. Not so much that Anoop didn't get in as to who beat him by only 20,000 votes out of 24 million cast. Michael Sarver, the self-proclaimed "Roughneck" beat Anoop. I'm happy for Michael because he's got a feel-good story, but, in my opinion, Anoop is hands-down a better singer.

I've still got hope though that Anoop will get a wild card spot.

Anoop In The News After Last Night's Appearance

We're only a few minutes away from finding out if Anoop is one of the lucky three that America chose after last night's performance. If you missed it, you can watch him sing Monica's Angel of Mine here.

Anoop Desai’s big asset is his likability, but he sang “Angel of Mine” by Monica, and it wasn’t as memorable as when he did “My Prerogative” during auditions. Like Sarver, he’s counting on goodwill he’s earned in previous weeks to help him on a night where he otherwise didn’t stand out from the pack.

“I’m not sure you had the riffs or the capability that nailed it in the way it needed to be nailed, but I believe you when you’re up there,” Kara said. “I’m hoping you get through.” If he does, that likability could take him a long way in the competition.

Objectively speaking, opening night of American Idol's eighth-season semifinals was not good, dawgs. On the women's side, if it wasn't abysmal song choice (Ann Marie Boskovich), it was abysmal singing (Stevie Wright), or abysmal styling (Jackie Tohn), or abysmal all-of-the-above (Casey Carlson). For the men, once-promising performers took spectacular nosedives (Stephen Fowler), middling performers got praised just for being nice (Michael Sarver), and personal favorites (Anoooooooooop!) didn't quite live up to expectations. (It's okay, 'Noop Dawg, I'm still a fan.) Oh, and regardless of the gender of vocalist, the American Idol band (Rickey Minor and the Karaoke Backing Track Orchestra!) sucked with all the fury of a hungry 10-year-old trying to make a too-thick milkshake climb up a narrow straw.

My gut tells me Danny Gokey and Alexis Grace will score tickets to the top 12, with the non-gender-specific third position going to Anoop Desai. Possible spoilers? Ricky Braddy? Maybe Michael Sarver? Or, if America doesn't buy the judges' too-hasty labeling of Alexis as the next Kelly Clarkson, maybe Ann Marie or...um...can we do write-in texts for Leneshe Young?

Time to Vote For Anoop Everyone!

Anoop just finished his song a few minutes ago. Anoop sang Monica's Angel of Mine. He did a fantastic job and the crowd and Paula were definitely into his performance. Anoop was dressed in his signature college preppy look with jeans, sneakers and a jacket. He looked very calm and didn't look like his nerves were bothering him at all. He shouldn't be anyway considering how many times he's performed live in front of a crowd. As for Anoop, the song was all about saying "Thanks" to everyone who's been behind him.

As for the judges:

Randy: He thought it was an interesting song selection from Anoop. He said it wasn't his best, but he was still a huge fan and that Anoop Dog is gonna be in the house.

Kara: Praised Anoop but said the song selection was probably not the best for him. She's still a fan though.

Paula: She gave Anoop a standing ovation when he was finished. She said, "America has connected with you. You've got a little Brian McKnight in you, and Anoop Dog's gonna be here for a while!"

Simon: Typical Simon - The songe was too grown up for you. It was too serious. But, you've got the likeability factor going, and your gonna be here for a while.

My favorite moment from his performance: While sitting down with Ryan after the performance, he thanked the band for doing such a great job. That's the sign of a true performer and a class act. You're the best Anoop!

Anoop just had a quick, but extremely powerful segment, singing Bobby Brown's My Prerogative. As usual, he was awesome and obviously is going to make it through because the judges just smiled and the camera cut away to another singer. And, they just showed a group that was moved to another holding room, and Anoop was in that room with some of the others who blew the judges away, so it's pretty safe to say that Anoop's gonna make it to tomorrow night. I'll let you know 100% in a short while. Stay tuned... 8:20PM.
